Ty's 4th Birthday Party

Ty turned 4 and to celebrate he had an awesome pool party at his house. Everyone enjoyed swimming in September (yes, it is still 104 degrees in Gilbert) watching college football and eating pizza! Mostly, everyone enjoyed being together and celebrating Ty's special day!

Court of Honor – Sept 22, 2010

The boys were all involved in a Court of Honor last week. Hunter was the Master of Ceremonies and did a great job announcing all of the troops as well as the various segments of the COH.

Hayden reported, as the senior patrol leader, what his troop has been involved in and been doing over the last 3 months.

Bryson was awarded his Star rank and now the waiting time for his Life rank has started. He only needs the waiting time to be awarded the Life rank.

We are very proud of all three of them and their willingness to serve and do what is right!

Long Time, No Posting!

It has been almost over 2 months since my last posting. Where does the time go? I will admit that creating the blog posts are a little difficult for me especially when adding pictures but MS Word 2007 has this really cool features that will allow blog posts to be created and pictures added then published to the blog so I am excited and more motivated to make blog posts.

Lots of things have been happening in the May Crew – some struggles, some miracles and some unexpected blessings – all which have brought us closer together as a family. Through it all, my husband and our boys have been rocks. Our boys are truly amazing and we consider them to be gifts because they have more clarity at times than either of the adults in the house. We love them and couldn't be prouder.

(Warning! This next part is a little sappy…)

In July, Brian was laid off from Boeing causing a great amount of anxiety and stress in our lives. We had known for a while that it was a possibility but had been assured that he would more than likely be redeployed to another program. Well, that didn't happen and we found ourselves in a situation that we never expected with me being the one that goes to work and him being at home. For me, the hardest part of all of this has been losing Brian at Boeing with me. I know it is selfish but I have had the hardest time with that aspect of it. People looked at us like we are crazy when we told them we spent so much time together but for both of us, it was a gift and thankfully, neither one of us took it for granted. When he wasn't there with me anymore, I have had a very difficult time dealing with that "loss". We have fasted and prayed to know what to do and what direction to take. Brian has had some amazing spiritual experiences and we have come to realize that there are things that we have NO control over. We don't understand why things happen the way they do and we can fight it all we want but the reality is that trials are a fact of why we are here. Learning to endure them well is the real test. President Uchtdorf gave a talk in the Priesthood session of April's conference that talked a lot about patience and learning to have patience especially in our trials and with the Lord's time. He is quoted as "Patience is not simply enduring – it is enduring well!" I have this saying up in my cubicle to remind me that it isn't just about getting through the trial begrudgingly but to move through it with grace. I will admit that I usually have a pretty good handle on obstacles and trials that have come up in our lives but this trial has been extremely difficult for me and I have not always shown grace but I am learning and trying to be more patient and graceful. Brian still does not have a job yet but we have a go-forward plan which is all we can do because the rest of it is beyond our control.

One of the big blessings that have come into our lives is that Brian was put into the bishopric in early May. I know and you didn't read that wrong – I did say BLESSING. Our stake realigned the boundaries of almost all of the wards in our stake and Brian was called to be the ward clerk of our new ward. I think that our Heavenly Father knows us so well that He knew that Brian needed the extra focus on the things that really matter as we have had to face this latest trial. Brian loves the men that he works with and we consider them to be our very good friends. They have prayed and fasted for us along with our families which mean the world to us. We have seen many small and miraculous blessings because of the prayers and fasts offered on our behalf. How can we ever doubt that our Heavenly Father doesn't know us or isn't mindful of us? He knows what we need better than we do.

Hunter gave a talk last Sunday and I am going to post it in an attached folder for record keeping. He prepared his talk himself and only let Brian read it after Brian agreed not to make him change it. Hunter's topic was about service and his thoughts on service. To say that I was proud of him would be a gross understatement. He stood up and was not nervous at all. He spoke eloquently and with such presence that I hardly recognized him. I couldn't believe that this was the same little boy who used to run and hide under the clothing racks at Target and then growl at other customers as they tried to look at the clothes on the rack or spill 5 syrup cups at Denny's in a matter of 1 minute. He was so grown-up and several people commented that he looked and spoke as if he was a return missionary. I wish you all could have been there – it was a very joyful experience especially for me as his mom.

My next few posts will be specific things we have been doing and involved with and I promise to try to be better at posting.
